A family owned and operated business, Rauf Carpets International specializes in handmade wool and silk rugs from across Persia and the Old Silk Road. Over 60 years ago, Haji Rauf envisioned company that would bring functionality and art together in a “for the customer” business. Haji had always enjoyed the artistic beauty in nature and discovered hand woven rugs possessed that same beauty. He found each rug to be an amazing work of art, unique and magnificent against all others. Haji desired to share this beauty with others within his village and across Afghanistan. This became the foundation for Rauf Carpets.
It didn’t take long for Haji’s dream to become a reality in his home province of Herat. Not only did Haji begin collecting rugs from across the region, he also began weaving his own rugs. Within a few short years, the carpet trade flourished to a point where Haji needed assistance. He then called on his sons to join the family business. Over the next several years, Haji and his family worked countless hours to develop one of the most recognized and respected carpet businesses in all of Afghanistan.
Haji later passed on control of Rauf Carpets to his son, Abdul Qadir Rauf. Like his father before him, Abdul soon began integrating his sons into the family business. He eventually moved the family operation to Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan. During US involvement in Afghanistan, Abdul’s oldest son, Jawad Rauf, quickly developed a unique relationship with three American Servicemen. This friendship resulted in a business agreement to establish Rauf Carpets International. The new partnership furthered Jawad’s goals to continue the legacy of his grandfather and keep Rauf Carpets a successful, honest and respected business; providing a paramount product at an honest price.
Today, Rauf Carpets International travels to all parts of Afghanistan, Iran, India and Turkmenistan to hand-select the finest rugs in the world!
